We are an outpatient secondary Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Service offering specialised care and treatment to women, their partners and their families during pregnancy and until the child is 4 years of age, in addition to preconception counseling.Our services are targeted at clients with symptoms in the moderate to severe range of perinatal mental health disorder.
Eligibility:
Women during pregnancy, their partners and families with symptoms in the moderate to severe range of perinatal mental health issues, until the child is four-years of age. Please note that we cannot accept clients with the following conditions or circumstances:
Acute or enduring psychotic illness
Active suicide/homicidal intent
Significant child protection issues
Current alcohol or other drug abuse
Recent history of violence or aggression
Current family custody disputes undergoing legal proceedings
Services Provided
A multidisciplinary team of skilled perinatal and infant mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, provides assessment, medication, and a range of psychotherapies, including individual, couple, group, and parent-infant therapy. St John of God Raphael Services provide specialist services to mums, dads and families who are experiencing anxiety, depression and other mental health issues during pregnancy and following childbirth (the perinatal period). Our family-focused interventions include identifying and managing psychological risk factors and diagnosable psychiatric illness, such as depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as therapeutic interventions in parent-infant relationships. The short and long-term adverse effects of these problems on the well-being of the mother, father, infant and family have been well documented.
