What to do if Someone is in a Mental Health Crisis
Mental Health Line

Mental Health Line is staffed by mental health professionals. This state-wide helpline provides telephone triage assessment and referral services and gives carers access to expert mental health advice and support for people dealing with a mental health problem. Where appropriate they can put you in contact with the local mental health crisis or acute care team. The Mental Health Line also provides advice about clinical symptoms and local treatment options for health and care service providers, such as general practitioners, police and ambulance officers.
Police

If there is an immediate threat to your safety, someone you are caring for or someone else’s safety: call the Police immediately on 000. For example:
- Actual or threatening violence to self or others
- Dangerous environment (eg. in an isolated site, late at night)
- Presence of lethal weapon/firearm (or has a history of the use of one)
- Presence of ideas of suicide/homicide with impulsive or aggressive behaviours (or the history of these behaviours)
Ambulance

If there is an immediate risk to the physical health of your family member, someone you are caring for, or another person,and if emergency medical attention is required then contact the Ambulance Service directly on 000. This may include situations where a person has caused serious physical harm to themselves (e.g. taking an overdose, etc.). For example:
- Physical illness or injury (actual or suspected)
- Overdose of drug, alcohol, or medication
- Under the influence of alcohol or drugs
